I have a topic for discussion. This being a wood carving club should we have an activity like a carving challenge? We could make a few limitations and all start off at the same time. In a specified time everyone could submit photos for voting by the membership on what carving was #1, 2 and 3.

Comments and Ideas?

I think that is a great idea.  It is actually something my son and I had discussed at one time but put on the back burner.  We need to get more input from some of the other members.  Maybe have several different categories?  Might even try to get some type of prizes donated for the winners.  Tomorrow I'll try to get a mass e-mail out to all the members and ask for ideas or comments.

Thanks for taking an active part of the club.  We really need to get more members active with the forums and journals.  Maybe this will be a start.

Great idea!

Count me in. How about a Christmas ornament exchange or a Friendship cane or something similar.

Whatever it is I am up for it. Hope this gets the ball rolling for this club.

Sounds like a good idea.  would be great to get the group up and moving.  Something small like a Christmas ornament would do nicely to get the project up and running.

Sure! sounds like fun.  Right now I am finishing up two other online carving events, and have the time to maybe get into another.  I have seen how much there is to gain from these kinds of Internet activities.  Prizes are not necessary, but I would be in favor of a few different catagories.

Thanks,

Here is another idea to kick around.

Couldn't we, as a group, participate in the Eagle Cane Project http://www.eaglecane.com/ftp.eaglecane/Welcome.html. Some of us could carve the eagle head handles while others (if we have any turners) could turn the shafts. Then we could trade handles for shafts, assemble the canes and distribute.

Just a thought. I personally would love to do it but I am not a turner and don't have a lathe.

Also, how about doing a weekly chat?

Well

This sounds good so far. A Christmas Ornament

Questions

Should there be a deadline for the completion?

Size limitations?

Who should be the Judges for the entries?

Voting to determine winners?

When do we start this?
