Denis...Yes, the rings, watch, hands and plaque were all carved separately.  I'm working on an intarsia ram's head presently.

So are you saying that the rings and watch are carved separately from the hands?  And as I understand your note the woman's hand is carved separately from the man's hand and plaque.  Again quite impressive.

Denis...Thank you for your kind words...I used no paint or bleach...The woman's hand is of ambrosia maple...the rings and watch are yellow heart and the man's hand and the plaque are of eastern red cedar.  An unfortunate choice of wood for the man's hand as the color became too dark when finished.  Mahogany might have been a better choice.  They liked it anyway.  Sanded to 400 grit, applied sanding sealer, sanded with 400, 4-0 steel wool, then waxed followed by last 4-0 steel wool.

Very nice!  It would seem this is an item that will be cherished for a lifetime.

Tell us about the finishing... did you paint the hand on top or bleach the wood?  what type of wood is this?

Friends of mine got married last October...I took a picture of their hands and made the carving using that picture as a model.  I gave it to them on January 16th...they were surprised and pleased.
