Got started carving almost 20 years ago. my the time does fly!

mainly I carve projects in the round. Tried chip carving and it is okay but i enjoy 3-D subjects. I do admire people who can do good relief. I have done a lot of walking sticks and bark houses. I am game to try just about most things.

Caricatures especially cowboys and animals. I do carve realistic animals and humans.

relief carving: and designing a good artistic carving.

Grandkids, Kids, doing things with my husband and my Horses; dogs, cats and other animals. Have been learning to take some photographs but am mainly a point and shoot type of photographer. I love my digital camera. Sure wish it was there when my kids were small.

Hi trudyginest, This stick is beech, the face was the root end.I carved it about 5 years ago, when I am finished carving,I rub it down with boiled linseed oil,let it dry for A couple of days, than spray the entire stick with 3 or 4 coats of clear polyurethane. Some times,I will add A little stain to the linseed oil to darken the wood.I like to carve-wild apple, maple, oak, beech.I don't beleave that I have ever used soft wood! Well I guess that I rambled on enough.I Thank you for your kind comment. Your friend, matt...
