Hello Carvers,
Yesterday received a wonderful carved blade cover carved by Will Hayden. It is amazing how detailed and well carved it is. Thanks Will for sharing your considerable talent. I doubt I will use it for a blade cover...too nice for that.
One of the fun things about groups like this and community in general is the sharing. I am fortunate to have been on the first cane exchange on Bill Judt's list way back when and have a cane with 16 different carved squares from all over the US and Canada. It is a wonderful interest piece at shows as the work is so varied and the story of the effort and distances involved just seem to facinate people. I was also part of a Round Robin exchange that both terrified me and yet was just super fun. Again with a cane square....you carve one of the corners and then mail it to the next person who carves a corner and he in turn mails the square with two finished corners to the next carver, etc. When finished the square will have four carvings on it done by four carvers. Like the silly girl that I am, I just signed up thinking ...what fun...but think about it...if you screw up, you can't throw away and start over as there is other carvers work on the square already. I was a nervous wreck for awhile as I was carving in the round robin with Len Dillon, Loren Woodward and Bill Russell all terrific carvers, but we got it done and it is on my desk as one of the things that gives me much pleasure. The memories and the carvings. So again I say thanks to Will Hayden for my most recent pleasurable gift and sorry to all for the way I have of digressing.
