My first actual class was with Wayne Barton in 1997. Coming from a career of blueprints and writing technical engineering specifications, chip-carving was a comfortable way for me to work with wood without having an "artistic" side.

Fan-carving, chip-carving & making treenware.
|
Anything that requires riven wood such as small fan items or treen ware with chip carved symbols.
Most important, I need to have passion for the item I'm carving.
|
The European hand method of using chisel and gouge. Antique hand tools & their use are a fascination of mine.
Also, my studies of symbolism of ancient cultures is never ending.

Researching the customs, traditions & symbols of ancient cultures is a passion of mine.
I collect memorabilia of naturalists: John Burroughs, Henry David Thoreau, Thornton W. Burgess & Elbert Hubbard.
My most valued & treasured moments are when I am communing with nature.
