Kaisersatt Seminar
Posted On 09/11/2008 09:54:35
Hi,
I got to attend a two day caricature seminar with Marv Kaisersatt on Sept. 9 and 10 at Chipping Away in Kitchener, Ontario.
The subject was " Head design and carving".  Had a really good time with Marv and a 7 other students.  There is a wealth of knowledge buried in his book in cartoon form.  Listening to him in person unlocks this previously overlooked stuff.  For instance, the last page contains a cartoon panel which lays out the step by step process for designing a face.  I previously mistook this page as a simple cartoon.
Half of the course was insight into his design process which is very versatile.  I often wondered how he carves so many different faces and now I know.  Every feature is easily altered independently so the combinations are infinite.
We were given two blanks to work on.  Marv carved one side of one of the blanks at each stage of his process and we were expected to copy the on the other side.  Soooo I now have half of a Marv K. head carving (designed by me) and hopefully I can retain the knowledge to produce complete ones that are all mine, the first one on the second blank

Larry.
